Brawley Estate Dear Mr. Smith: You may recall that sometime ago, I wrote Mr. 0. P. Houston, stating that Mrs. Brawley would like to be appointed as guardian for her children. I never heard anything from Mr. Houston but you told me in your letter of August 18th that since Mrs. Brawley was personally interested in some of the real estate in her husband's estate, you thought there might be a possible conflict of interests between her and the children. I have discussed the matter with Mrs. Brawley. She understands your position and this is entirely satisfactory to her. After the land has been sold, she would like to qualify as guardian since her children live here with her, and apparently you would have no objection at that time. I understand that Mr. Williem S. Neel is planning to bring a proceeding to sell the land in which Mrs. Brawley bas a dower interest and her children have a fee interest. Mrs. Brawley has heard nothing more about this. I am sending a copy of this letter to Mr. Neel with the suggestion that when the summons is to be served on Mrs. Brawley, he can send it to me and I will have her accept service and return it to him proaptly. I believe that her signature on the report will be sufficient receipt that she paid these items to herself, I also enclose a publishers affidavit in connection with the creditor's notice, I believe the only remaining item is the question of Court costs, and I would appreciate your sending me a statement of the costs so I can get Mrs, Brawley to send a check, “I f “u l p y u e l y so w s ‘A o ; me r g Honorable C. Dear Mr. Smith: Would you be so good as to grant an extension of time until January 1, 1954 for the filing of inventory in the Estate of my mother-in- law, Mrs. Kate Patterson Brawley?. We are still in the process of having these properties appraised and since we are experiencing some difficulty regarding the location and establishment of boundary lines, an accurate appraisal can not be made at this time. The Estate has no creditors and the rights of no one would be prejudiced by granting this extension. In the meantime, since it appears that we will have to em- ploy the services of a surveyor, would you be kind enough to recommend to us the name of a thoroughly dependable and reliable surveyor? Best wishes and kindest regards. ly cc to: Miss Mary E, Brawley Mooresville, N. Accordingly, you can understand the desirability of having the inventory of the estate filed in your office being identical with these other reports, In the light of these circumstances, I desire to ask if you will not grant a further extension of time until April 15, 1954 for the filing of the inventory in your office, Your acknowledgement of this letter and advice regarding same will be appreciated, Mog rdially yours, _ / JOHN W, CAFFEY ( ‘A I P Me I G uo s i o y e g se y es o l November 25, 1953 Honorable John Ww.
