Q.Mr.Doughton,this is strickly informal for information regarding the Landis case. You may meke any statement to these gentlemen that you would like to make. How long did Mrs.Landis work for you? A.About 10 years. Q.In which department did she work? A.Shoe Department. Q.Had she worked in the shoe department full time? A.Yes. Q.Did you find her to be a good employee? A.Average employee. Q.Was she neat, courteous and kind to your clients? A.As far as I know,at all times. Q.Did she ever give you any trouble? A.May I answer that this way.I guess most departments at some time or another have sane trouble. With her I didn't have any more than had with average employee. Qe About what salary did Mrs.Landis Make? A.Around $30 or $35 a week. Q.Her employment was regular? Ae Yes. Q.During this investigation,we have been informed that she was released from your Store,is that correct? A.She resigned. Q.She was not released, she resigned herself? Yes What date did she resign? I think it was around March 7th. Did she at any time extortion any money from your store? No. Q.Was there ever any question regarding misappropriation of funds surrounding an approval slip? A.There was a little question about 3 months ago about an approval slip but that was cleared up ard accepted.I might say in behalf of Mrs.Landis, statement which was made to you and Mr,Ivey--we put in cash registers down at the store, prior to that time we had used certain type ticket. On the cash register, you ring up each different item--we had 6 or 8 drawers in each cash register. Q.Did she gét along with the other help there? 4.I think so. Q.Is there anything else you would like to state? A.No,nothing except that she worked for us for approximately 10 years, and during that time,as far as I know--I em out of the store a lot,we never had any complaint. However, she never seemed to ever get on to the cash register. But she was not the only one that had trouble with that;some of the other employees who had been there for years threatened to resign and quit because they couldn't seem to work them, Questioned by Mr.Finch Q.Mr.Doughton,I believe that you said she left your employ around March 7th,this year? 4.Yes. Q.I believe you stated she resigned her employ? A.Yes. Q.Was that resignation requested by your Company,or was it voluntarily? A.She volunteered. Q.Did she state at that time why she reshgned? A.We had just a little bit of disagreement through the office force that she had not been able to work the cash register--she never could balance her account.I don’t think it was any feult of Mrs.Landis--she just never could learn to work her cash register. You've got to ring up each different item in the store--like we have 4,5,or 6 items,if you @ in the store and purchase shoes, polish ani moe strings, you list each one individually. She never seemed to be able to do it.
