YOUR GIFT makes a big DIFFERENCE (Arian Naltlda Spacper Mix rir Mr. T. BE. Swann Route 1 Box 147 Statesville, N. C, 28677 Dear Mr, Swann: i want to thank you for going with Mrs, Miller te get the pictures at Old Salem Church, I was so impressed with the pictures of the ehurch, Just felt real good hoping that some of my foreparfents said some prayers that went straight to heaven. The date isn't very plain but I have a letter from Miss Willard Sharpe giving the date and I am hoping that they will accept that as proof. It is such a shame that so many years went by and_we didn't try to get proof of all the things that we could have been told. My grandmother (Alice Steiner Hosse) always laughed and said"I wish I had asked about these details Margaret if I had only thought you wanted to know", I am trying to find seme of the people that you mentioned in your letter, I have a cousin whe had @ Swann married into her family and she promésed that she would set in touch with ie them. I have left a call for Mr. Dyson, the only one in telephone book, I always lived in Nashylle until six years ago when we sold our home and bought forty acres in Williamson County to build a new home. Nashville is abéut 300,000 people and I just lion't happen te know anyone by the names! you mentioned I wish I knew when my people came to Tennesseebut I believe and 1860. They all seemed to live on lst St. called Edgefield. There were David Franklin S! Marian Matilda Sharpe Steiner (wife of J. T, Sti came over here(unmarried) died a@i Ere buried here. Sarah I don't know anything about. Matilda Steiner moved forth from N. C.-fo Tenn, In fact, hea of cholera on the way back to T Grandma said she was born in Fulton, W, C, 27, 1866. Tf ved across the road from her mother Mrs. David Sharpe(Mary Ann Brandon) who lived with her sen Dr, William Sharpe. Dr Sharpe was @ widewer. His wife died in child birth and he never married again-one child -Adelia Shappe. Dr. Sharpe(s wife was a Hanes of the Hanes Mills, Adelia Sharpe married Treland-they had three children, daughter Mabel, married Watsen-no children. Frank Ireland had one daughter, I believe she now lives in New York. Sam Ireland was un- married and lived in Winson-Salem working at O'Hanlen Drug Co. Frank Ireland died in Miami a few years ago. He s&id his mother and father are buried at Methodist Church in Advance, N. C, Is this the same church as Old Salem-I can't find Advance, N.C, on map. I would se leve to know where Fulton is, as this is where they lived. Dr, Sharpe died Nov, 21, 1877, — About Steiner family- I have'nt tried to do any resé™rdh on then. Just a few things I know---= . Abraham Steiner b, June 19, 1797 in Bethabara, N. C, d, June 9, 1879 Salem, W, C, married Nov, 20th 1823 to Caroline Schuttz b, Surinum, South America Apr. 1, 1802 d. Salem . WN. Oct 6, 1860. These are parents of Julius Theodore Steiner. The Abraham Steiner you spake of is perhaps his dather bb, Apr. 27, 1758 died May 22,1822. am so interested tell me more about it. Is it an invitation to funeral. 9 Her father had died previously, » She lived with him while she was q lA 1«/em student in Salem Academy, Amelia Steiner, only daughter of Abraham who lived to be grown, taught schodl at Salem as did her mother papa Coen, Many years ago I spent the day in Winston-Salem and copied a few the tombstones. At that time I wasn't to interested. I hope to do research on Steiner family later, Mr. Dyson just called and said his family was from Vireinia and he had ao relatives that he knew of close arojnd. I will keep trying the other names you pave me, Our librarian said she had a little off Swann family. I am poing to copy it for you. Is Swan and Swann the same? . Many thanks for you letter. I wanted to be with you so very much but it was too long & trip for such a short time. I went to see Lorene and we discussed every possibility but, in the end,we had $o give it up. T know it was & glorious day and I would K have loved meeting your family. You are going to be surprised when you learn what T am writing you about. I have a letter from you written Nec. 20, 1967 'nquiring about some . {information about the Sherril-Stevenson fami~lines, inouiring especially about a James Stevenson Sherril who marri-ed an Flizabeth Ann Stevenson. One of my dearest friends is from a stevenson-Sherril line. At the time I talked to her of this, At this time she had lost her book. I wonder if you have ever seen & copy of "stevenson" written from notes of Rev. Sam- uel Harris ctevenson,Rev.J.A.Harris and Hon.W.F, Stevenson published about 1926? It gives & world of lineage and devotes some space to the Weston family. It gives less facts on the Elizabeth ann- JA 668 Joseph Stevenson Sherrill than any others. However they seem to come from the Moses branch of the Stevensons. She thinks this Joseph was 8 brother of her grand- father Col. L.J. Sherrill who was killed early in the . To the best of her knowledge this Joseph did live in Mayfield and had at least two children-a boy Elbert and a daughter. Here again is the tragedy of not listening to our elders when they want to talk. Her father lived into’ his eighties with a clear mind and 8 great interest in his ancestors. He was as fine a man as ever lived in Mayfield. If you will let mp know what you are most snterested in learning ! will see what I can find in the book. I understand another book was published by 8 Judge--, possibly previous to this book. Jeanette had a letter from a man who told her that the sister of the late Vice-Predident Adali Stevenson had more knowledge about the family than anyone else. 1 can get her name and. ad- dress if you are interested. William Stevenson( Little Gabriel) came from Ireland and is buried at Fourth Creek Presbet erian Church. He received a land grant from Lord Granville in Tredel) Co,in 1761, Tooks like every pody turned up at Iredell Co. sooner or later. Tf you want me to follow any of this up for you, let mp know. Plesse neturn QS letter to me when you are through wi-th it as I want it for my file.
