IS. ate i a June 16, 1971 Dear Mr. Swann, 1 am returning your paper that you so generously let me borrow a year ago. Please forgive me for keeping it so long; it had been my in- tention to bring it back personally, but it seems that everytime we plan- ned to go see you, something came up. I still have hopes of getting over to see you but thought that I would just go ahead and send your paper by mail. I did appreciate your letting me borrow it, My work on the Sharpe family progresses; some of the other lines are g0ing very slowly. iting thing that ha year was the discovery of the descendants of Mary L. Sharpe, daughter of Alfred Sharpe. She married Andrew Johnson and moved to Yancey County. He was killed in the Civil War fighting for the Union. His famiiy mig- rated on into the mid-west, This family lives in Idaho; they had just recently learned that Mary was a daughter of alfred Sharpe of Iredell County; therefore, they were unable to help concerning the parents of Alfred, but I was 60 happy to be able to send them copies of Alfred's papers, I, also, had a letter that their great grandfather had written to the cousins in Iredell County. some of these same Johnsons .were Supposed to have given the land for Trinity church, when it was moved from the old Thyatira church. Do you know anything about this or who the parents of this Andrey Johnson were? Apparently they all lived in the area around Trinity. . Recently, I got a copy of the first and last church roll of old Thy- atira Methodist church and the first church roll for Trinity. Would you like to have a copy of it? I will be very happy to send it to you. Did I ever get you a copy of the old Liberty Hill Tract Of Jand? This is & drawing showing the different divisions of the over 600 acres. I recent- ly found the Old Thyatira cemetery; it is in woods, with only old: rocks visible marking the graves. Miss Jessie Stone said that at one time there were many markers there. I Suppose they fell over the years and are cover ed over with dirt. Do you have any information about the Sharpes marrying into the Hollane family? My grandmother said that She and Stamey Holland in Statesville were cousins (he said so, too),; but I have been unable to find any records to explain this, I spoke with his Sister, but she was unable to tell me, though ‘she said that she knows that there is a connection. I recently fomd the record of the marriage of Mira &. Sharpe to Jesse Harper about 1852. Some say that she was a sister OT Alfred; if this is true she did not marry until she was past 50 years old. ~I-tan not find her on the census record of 1850, but she was a member of Trinity church in 1848, I think it was. Others say that Alfred's Sister was Mary and that she married Wallace Holler. I have found no records of this; I did not even find a Wallace Holler. All of this is probably very confusing to you as it has been so long Since I have discussed it with you. I hope you and Mrs. Swann are well. -Let me hear from you, and we hope to see you again-soon. We have t Ought Of both of you often. Sincerely, ‘ Mlle P. S. Do you hear from Catherine Turner yet? She has improved, but apparetly is not well. Richard Anderson was evidently a widower, Charl? the oldest child living in the household, and there were several younger brothers and sisters--but no Eliz: beth, In my hurried glance through the censys microfilm library, I was unable to find an 1860 Davie County Census, but | think we have an 1870 census of Davie County. I will read it as soon as possible, and see if I ca: find the Charles and Elizateth Sha: pe you are seeking. (se Bh 2165 Oklahoma City, Oklanoma September 2, 1966 Dear Mr. Swann: IT read the 1870 census of Davie County, North Carolina during’ the noon hour, but I am afraid I did more to disprove your hopes than to prove them. In feet, I kinda believe Blizabeth Sharpe, the daughter of David and Mary Ann Sharpe, wound up being an old maid instead of the wife of Charles J, Anderson. The ace of the srple Elizabeth Sharpe was a few years younrer than I anticipated, but I think the good Lord was most forgiving of his Mold maid" children who lied about their ages with romantic visions. There is also a fair possibility that Charles & Anderson married a daughter of David and May Ann Sharpe, but, if so, i* wes M = : — Mary and not Elizabeth, Here are my findings: C. I have heard from Moravian Archives and it will tare volumes to fill all the information they have on my Steiner-Schultz families. I then want to work on Brandon family, but it seems that Abraham Brandon is lost to history. Mrs. Lelia Graham Marsh, 893 South Main Strect, Winston-Salem, N.
