I believe that is the home of his wife, and he, I am told, is associated with her brothers. Mary Brandon married kawrence Smith, a boy near Davidson, and thev..are now in Charlotte. Lawrence is with a chain store concern but evidently be im Charlotte for a while as they bought a: home. lames has two children, a gir] and boy I believe, and both of them must be almost grown, if not married. ‘lary Brandon has no children. Codi tt~ * BREVARD, ROBERG - 1779, Volunteered in Rowan County, in company ot Captain Dickey's militia, to intercept the British unier Cornwallis, which seemed to b e approaching from Camden. :They assembled at rhifer's and went on. to Charlotte. They remained there until it appeared that the British. ewere not coming, and then returned home, 1780, Volunteered again, this time under Colonel William Davie, They marched ‘from a place five or six miles north of Charlotte to the "swamp of Sugar Creek'', They reconnoitered, intercepting the .. British-parties sent ‘out from Charlotte, until the British returned to Winnsborough, which was after the Battle of King’ 5 leon on October 7 , 1780. Then they returned home, / In June, 1780, he volunteered against the Tories,anddwas in the companv of Captain. Dickey at Ramseur's Mill. Afterwards he was in company of Gaptain Robert Ramsey, brother of the Captain Ramsey -under whom he served in the "Cornwallis war." They went to Beatty's Ford under General Davidsorm; then down the Catawba to Cowan's Ford t6 prevent tke British from crossing. Before reaching the ford they camped, and at daybreak a part of the British crossed, A Little ‘ engagement ensued in w hich General William Lee Davidson was killed This was on February 1,178I, Later in the fall of 1780 he began a three-month's service in the. company of Captain Robert Kamsey, They were near Providence, south of Charlotte, near the South Carolina line, under General. Smallwood, He was three months in this service, Later in I78I he was drafted in Rowan County, under Captain Cathe as a member of a company of horse, which were:sent to Wilmington to join General Rutherford, They had joined him near Wilmington when the news of the surrender of Cornwallis came, and cr immediat returned to their homes. Robert Brevard was born in that part of Rowan County which later became Iretell on July 17, 1763. He had the record kept in the Family’ Biblé which he. kept in his home about eleven miles from Cape Girard Missouri, whither he had moved about 1827, He died Jan, 2, ‘1847, * leaving a widow, Nancy, and two liwing children: Albert H. Brevard, New Orleans, and Mrs. Benjamin Bacon, who Lived in Illinois, Witnessing his application were Mitchell Fleming who had known him sixty years, as boys together in Rowan, and served with him in a company of militia; and Capt. "ARTICLE 4. It is mutually agreed thet: (1) If at .eny timc during the terr,-of this agreement any of the above-named Farmers shall cease to * have an interest in the farm, whether as owner, lessed, renter, tenant or otherwise, this agree- ment shall beoane inoperative as to such Farmers.
