First, the Bell side. Mr. Bell was the son of John Robinson Bell and Amanda Adline Oxford. His fath- er was the.son of John Carson Bell -!and Elizabeth Holman, of the Coal Spring section of Iredell County. |} The records show that J. C. Bell of Iredell County bought from Silas Keaton of Iredell County onf April 20; 1857, one-half interest in} one hundred acres of land on both Sass of Lower Littie River( now known as Bell’s river and about itwo miles west of Taylorsville on the Lenoir Road). This purchase imeluded “mills” and the price was $2,000. It would appear that he ‘must have bought the other half interest on Sept. 1, 1862, from Cal- lyin Jones and J. J. Teague, for 11,800. John Carson Bell and Elizabeth Bell, John Robinson Bell and Amanda ‘Adeline Bell are: buried in the Taylorsville Cemetery, hard by the retaining wall beside High- way No. 90. James Oxford was son of Samuel and Bathsheba ‘Barrett Oxford. Bathsheba *Barrett } : the daughter of Jonathan Bar- | rett, supposed to be the fitst white } settler in. Alexander County. Bis- hop. Spangenburg and his Mora- vians scouts, looking for a location for the Moravian settlement, were in Alexander County Nov. 6, 1752, and in his diary he mentions Jona- than Barrett as one of, his guides, } while here. Mr. Bell’s grandmother, Eveline Bradburn was the daughter of a and Elinor or Nellie Starnes Bradburn. Nellie Starnes was the daughter of Joseph Starnes, a sol dier of the Revolution and Rachel i Rice of Mecklenburg County. In 1808 a land transfer was made by David Beall to Archibald Lovelace as "part of the dowry of Milly Doughtry, formerly widow of Evan Beall deceased". (She m. 23 Dec’ 1799.) Now this David could be Evan's father for Evan's son David was not old enough to be transferring land in his name.
