HomeMy WebLinkAboutConcord Presbyterian Minutes 1970-1975 (congregational)(ongre ation| M INules 19770-17713 phn Awan Wises A congregational meeting of Concord Presbyterian Church met at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary on May 2,1971 as had been announced for the purpose of electing Elders and Deacons for the class of 1977 and to fill unexpired terms of Deacons. Rev.John Norman Wilson read scripture and had the opening prayer. The following counting committee was appointed by the Moderator: Tom Setser,chairman,Hugh Ervin,Hazeline Lentz,Sam Orrell,Harvey Stevenson,Jr.,and Sally Wilson. Hugh Ervin made a motion that we elect by secret ballot.The motion wassecondedbyTomSetserandthecongregationapprovedit. Chal Stikeleather moved that the six highest in Deacon voting be the class of 1977,the seventh come in the class of 1975 and the eighth become amemberoftheclassof1973.Harold Hedrick seconded the motion and the motion was approved. A motion by Hugh Ervin and seconded by Chal Stikeleather to wote on five out of top nine nominees was approved.A.M.Shive,Jr.requested that he be deletedfromconaédderation,. The following were elected for the Session,Class of 1977: Harold Hedrick Voight Hoover R.R.Marlin Francis Stevenson J.Long Wooten Lewis Stikeleather was elected for the class of 1977 of the Deacons‘on the first ballot. A motion by Harold Hedrick and seconded by Mrs.Hugh Ervin to vote on thenextfourteenhighestnomineesforthesevenremainingplacesontheboardwas approved. The following were elected for the Deacons,Class of 1977: Robert Feimster Bill Johnson Robert Moore Charles Stevenson Lewis Stikeleather W.H.Summers Harold Hedrick moved to elect two to fill unexpired terms from the fourhighestvotegetteronthesecondballot.The motion was seconded by ChalStikeleatherandapprovedbythecongregation.The following were elected:Lindsay Stikeleather for the class of 1973 and Billy Joe Cook for the classof1975. A motion to adjourn was made by Hugh Ervin and seconded by Mrs.Ruth Hedrick, Rev.John Norman Wilson closed the meeting with prayer. A congregational meeting of Concord Presbyterian Church was held in the sanctuary following morning worship on October 31,1971,for the purpose of naming the inscription on the new educational building as ordered by call from the Session. The meeting was called to order and prayer was led by Rev.John Norman Wilson.Ballots were passed out by the Deacons. A motion was made by Mr.Harold Hedrick and seconded by Mr.Tom Setser that the moderator appoint a tabulating committee to report back to the congregation on the next Sunday.The motion was approved by vote of the congregation and the following committee was appointed:Mr.H.Clay Summers, Chairman,Mr.Sandy Shive and Miss Mabel Stevenson. Johfi Dagenhart, Du y¥ha / lgrk The congregational meeting of Concord Presbyterian Church was continued on November 7,1971 following morning worship to hear the report of the tabulating committee for names for the new fellowship hall and educational building. The meeting was called to order by Rev.John Norman Wilson,Moderator. A motion was made by Mr.Hugh Ervin to take the six names having the ighest number of votes and choose the name which received a majority of all the votes.The second to this motion was made by Mr.R.R.Marlin and the motion was adopted by vote. The meeting was adjourned with a song and benediction to continue on November 14,1971. bn.HVamor W)ilo Norman Wilson,Moderator John,Magenhat > The Congregational meeting of Concord Presbyterian Church was continued on November 14,1971 during the worship service with a report from the tabulating committee being that there was no majority for the names being voted on for the name of the new fellowship hall and educational building. The meeting was called to order by Rev.John Norman Wilson,Moderator, who also offered the morning prayer. A motion was made by Hugh Ervin and seconded by Tom Setser that a vote be taken between the top three from the last ballot,these being No.10, Cathey=Phipps Fellowship Building;No.17,The Fellowship Hall -1969;and No.18,Memorial Fellowship Hall.This motion was approved, The moderator appointed J.D.Drum to serve as a tabulator in the absence of Sandy Shive. A motion was made by Joe Lentz,seconded by Betty Summers and approved, that the committee meet and tabulate the votes and report back to the congregation before the end of the service. The report of the tabulating committee was that the name "Fellowshir 1969"received a majority of votes and a motion was made by Tom and seconded by Ruth Brown that the name,"Fellowship Hall -1969", which had received the majority of votes,be accepted.This motion was dopted. The meeting was adjourned with the singing of a closing hymn and a benediction. The meeting was called to order by acting moderator,Elder Tom Setser,and opened with prayer by Reverend John N.Wilson. A motion was made by Harold Hedrick and seconded by Voight Hoover that Tom Setser be elected as temporary Moderator for the Congregational Meetings.The motion was approved. The reading of the call for Yongregational Meeting was made by the Clerk. A report was made by Dr.Lenten as concerns the meeting at hand. A motion was made by Herman Dagenhart and seconded by Harold Hedrick that we accept with regret our pastor's resignation and wish to acknowledge the many good works that have transpired during his pastorate.God speed for his recovery.The motion was approved. A motion was made by Ruth Brown and seconded by Herman Dagenhart that we accept the recommendation of the Session for Pulpit Committee.The motion was approved. Nominations for Pulpit Committee from Session:Tom Setser and Henry Parlier.A motion was made by Ruth Brown and seconded by Mrs. Alice Price that the nominations by clesed.The motion was approved. Nominations from Diaconate:Bill Summers.A motion was made by Betty Fiemster and seconded by Mrs.Alice Price that the nominations be closed.The motion was approved. Nominations for Woman:Mrs.Hal Brown.A motion was made by Mrs. Saffos and seconded by Betty Vickery that the nominations be closed.The motion was approved. Nominations for Young Person:Anne Stevenson.A motion was made by Ruth Brown and seconded by R.R.Marlin that the nominations be closed. The motion was approved. A motion was made by Blake Stevenson and seconded by Mrs.Alice Price that we adjourn.The motion was approved. The closing prayer of the Morning Worship Service by Reverend G.P.Whitely was the opening prayer of the Congregational Meeting.Tom Setser reported for the Pulpit Committee that Reverend Robert L.Hare be nominated as pastor for Concord Presbyterian Church.Hugh Ervin moved that nominations be closed and was seconded by H.C.Dagenhart.The motion was unanimously approved.Call is attached Discussion followed concerning Reverend Hare.‘The vote for whe call was unanimous. The meeting was called to order and opened with prayer by Keverend Robert L.Hare,Jr.The purpose of the meeting was to elect officers (Deacons and Elders)for class of 1979. A motion was made by T.E.Setser that the clerk of the Session be elected as clerk of the Congregation.The motion was seconded by Lewis Stikeleather and was unanimously carried. Harold Hedrick reported on the voting procedure which consisted of secret ballot with the twelve highest nominated. The Counting Committee consisted of Hugh Ervin,J.Long Wooten,Dot Little, and Helice Stevenson. The meeting was called to order and opened with prayer by Reverend Robert Hare,Jr. A Report was received by the Iabulating Committee on the twelve highest vote getters.A vote was to be for six out of the twelve. A request was re ceived from A.M.Shive,Jr.that the names of A.M.Shive, Sr.and A.M.Shiv e,Jr.be dropped from the list for consideration. A request was received from Lewis Stikeleather his name be removed from the li for consideration.
