That he gave ten days notice of this application by posting a
notice at the Court House door, pursuant to Section 2971 of the
Consolidated Statutes. -5—
That his reasons for desiring a change of name are as follows:
(a) That his insurance is made out in the name of Julius
Strawsky; that he is operating under the firm name and style of Strause's
and that the insurance company has made repeated requests that he have
his name changed by court in order that the name under which he operates
his business may be identical with that by which he is insured.
(b) That he is generally known as Julius Strause. |
(c) That the name Strawsky is difficult to pronounce and
that in carrying on his business, expecially by telephone, he frequently
encounters difficulty in making parties understand his name, which results
in mail being sent in the wrong name, and causing him trouble and
embarrassment.
(ad) That attached hereto are affidavits from two persons
stating that your petitioner is a man of good character.
WHEREFORE, your petitioner prays the court, for the above reasons,
that an order be issued changing his name from Julius Strawsky to Julius

Strause, and that this petition and application and satd order be recorded
on the docket of Special Proceedings jn'this court.
2- That the court issue to your petitioner a certificate
under its hand and seal, stating that the name has been changed from
Julius Strawsky to Julius Strause.

Strawsky is a man of good character; and it further appearing to
the court that satisfactory reasons have been given in the petition
that the name be changed;

Superior Court for Iredell County, North Carolina, and being heard upon the
duly verified petition of the applicant and other evidence; and,
It appearing to the Court that the applicant, Booker T. Smoot is
a resident of Iredell County, North Carolina, and filed pro6f of his good char-
acter by affidavits of two residents and citizens of Iredell County, North Caro-
lina, who are familiar with his reputation and standing; and,
It further appearing that said applicant has given more then ten
(10) days notice of his application by publication of notice together with a

Thomas Rex Benson.

That since he was eight years of age, with the
exception of a short interval, he has lived in the home of and been
reared by kr. and Mrs. C. H. Beaver, Statesville, N. C., R. F. D. #4,
who have stood in the relation of parents to him throughout these years
and have provided him a home and given him employment and recently,
just before the death of his foster father, C. H. Beaver, Mr. and Mrs.
Beaver set him up in business. That during all these years he has come
to have a deep affection for Mr. Beaver, prior tohis death, and for Mrs.
Beaver, who survives and they have been good to him and furnished
him a home and since they have no children of their own and he has
occupied this relationship, Mrs. seaver is anxious for him to take
their family name and continue in the relation which has heretofore
existed between them; that his own family resides in the State of
Oklahoma and he has not lived with them, or been closely associated with
them since he was a boy eight years of age and he has come to know the
Beaver home as his own home.
WHER“FORE, for the reasons set forth in this petition
and after notice filed, as provided by law, your petitioner respectfully
petitions and prays the Court to make an order, changing the name of the
petitioner from Thomas xex Benson to xex Henson Heaver.

This cause coming on to be heard before the undersigned
Clerk of the Superior Court of Iredell County on Wednesday, the 25th day
of Sept. 1940, at 10 o'clock A. M. and being heard upon the petition
of Thomas Rex Benson and it appearing to this Court that the petitioner
duly published notice of the filing of his petition in this Court on
Saturday, Sept. 14th, 1940, setting forth his intention to file the said
petition, which said notice was posted at the court house door and
published in the Statesville Daily, a newspaper published in Iredell
County and that the applicant has filed his petition in accordance with
the requirements of Chapter 57 of the Consolidated Statutes of North
Carolina, setting forth that for the reasons named therein, he desires to
change his present name of Thomas Rex Benson to the name of Rex Benson
Beaver and the applicant having filed the necessary proof of his good
character;
This Court finds as a fact that good and sufficient
reason exists for the change of the name of the applicant, Thomas Rex
Benson to Rex Benson Beaver;
WHEREUPON, It is ordered, adjudged and decreed that
the name of Thomas Rex Benson be and from this date, it is hereby

To the Honorable Clerk of the Superior Court of Iredell County:
The undersigned petitioner, William Garnett Shelton, by
his Next Friend, Mrs. Elmina li. Shelton, respectfully shows to the Court:
lst. That William Garnett Shelton is a male resident of
Iredell County, North Carolina, fourteen years of age, residing at 323
Walnut Street, in the City of Statesville, Iredell County, North Carolina.
2nd. That the true name of the applicant is William Garnett
Shelton.
3rd. That he desires to adopt and use the name of William
Garland Shelton.
4th. That the name of this applicant has never before been
changed by law.
5th. That the reasons why this a»plicant desires to have
his name changed are as follows, viz:
That his father, T. Garland Shelton died on April 10, 1940,
leaving surviving three sons, this applicant and two others older; that the
applicant is the youngest child; that neither of the brothers is called or
ordinarily goes by the name of the deceased father, "Garland Shelton" and
that this petitioner, ever since he was an infant, has generally been
known and called "Sonnie" in the family, without any individual distinction
or personal given name; that he was affectionately attached to his father,
who was very close to the petitioner and this petitioner desires to have his
name changed from William Garnett Shelton to William Garland Shelton in order
that he may hereafter bear and be known by the name of his father, Garland
Shelton, out of his affection and leve for his father, now deceased; that
his father was always known by the name of "Garland Shelton" in the community
and the name of "Garland Shelton" has a wide-spread identification and
acquaintanceship; whereas, the nickname by which the applicant is ordinarily
known has no peculiar significance or identity.
WHEREFORE, for the reasons set forth in this petition and
after notice filed, as provided by law, your vetitioner respectfully
petitions and prays the Court to make an order, changing the name of the
petitioner from William Garnett Shelton to William Garland Shelton.

Garnett Shelton, a :inor.
This cause coming on to be heard before the undersigned
Clerk of the Superior Court of Iredell County on i.onday, January 27th,
1941, and being heard upon the petition of .jilliam Garnett Shelton,
and it appearing to this Court that the vetitioner duly published notice
of the filing of his petition in this Court on January 13th, 1941,
setting forth his intention to file the said petition, which said
notice was posted at the court house door and published in .he Statesville
Daily, a newspaper publisnec in Trece.t Cowtty, and that the anplicant
has filed his netition in accordance with the recuirements of Chapter 57
of the Consolidated Statutes of North Carolina, setting forth that for
the reasons named therein, he desires to change his present name of
‘illiam Garnett Shelton to the name of William Garland Shelton and
the annlicant having filed the necessary proof of his good character;
This Court finds as a fact that good and sufficient reason
exists for the chanse of the name of the annlicant, illiam Garnett
an Shelton, to \Jilliam Garland Shelton;
WHEREUPON, it is ordered, adjudged and decreed that the
name of fillian Garnett Shelton be and from this date, it is hereby
changed to illiam Garland Shelton.
It is further ordered that a certificate be issued
over the hand and seal of this Court to the anplicant, certifying the
said change in iis name and that these proceedings be recorded in the
docket of snecial nroceedings in the office of this Court.
