AN ACT TO PROVIDE FOR THE ELECTION OF JUSTICES OF THE PEACE. The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact : SECTION 1.—That there shall be elected by this General Assembly, Justices of the Peace in and for the respective townships of the Coutities of the State, not exceeding t to the township, in addition to the vacancies to be filled, and the three hereby appointed shall be furnished the law books necegsary for Tus thes of the Peace, and for each township in which any city or incorporation town is situated, one Justice of the Peace for ever honsand inbabitangf wach town or city. Said Justices of the Peace, elected as aforesaid, shall hold their offices respectively for the term ofWix yeurs~": , .” 7 SECTION 2.—The fectbtary ofBtate shall certify to the Clerks of the Superior Court of the several Counties a list of all the Justices of the Peace elected for their several counties, and this shall be their commission, and the Clerk of the Superior Court shall notify the said Justices of their election. SEcTION 3.—That the term of office of said Justices shall begin on the first day of April, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-five. SEcTION 4.—That at the next general election, and every two years hecatier there shall be elected in each township in the State three Justices of the Peace, and for each township in which any city or incorporated town is situated, one Justice of the Peace for every one thousand inhabitants in such town or city, who shall hold their office for two years. Section 5.—That all laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed. SECTION 6.—That this Act shaJl be in force from and after its ratification.
