This was a dinner meeting held in the recreation hall of the church, served by a group of ladies of the church. Mr. Fuller Sams presided and there were 35 members present. Mr. Flake Sherrill read the financial report for August. it was announced that the conference year was to close the last Sunday in Sept. as had already been decided. Rev. Bowles discussed the past years church activities and accamplishments and outlined the coming years activities. At his suggestion it was voted th place book racks in the vestibules of the church to hold small books wkich the members of at church could buy. He also suggested the purchase of a moving picture machine for use in the Church School., after discussinn it was decided to appoint a committee to investigate the purchase of this machine. A committee was to be appointed to investigate the possibility of @ camp for the young people of the church. A demobilazation committee consisting of from five to seven members to assist returning service men was discussed. It was voted to present a small book entitled “Good Bye To GI" to each returning service man. The"impe@pors Physician" a book just of the press,was voted to be mailed to each service man as a Christmas present from the Church. The placing of a bronze placque with name of each service man on it be placed in the Church wag.méntioned by the pastor. 8 ; ' The following men were appointedvé comnittee to investigate the placing of a bulletin board in the church yard: A. 4. Bunch, Chairman, Jack Dillon,&Frank Redmond. The following nominating committee was appointed to nominate HAMSEX men to serve as members of the Board of Stewards for the coming four year period: Ralph Sloan, Chairman, F. B. Bunch, Irving Tomlin, Blake Sherrill, R. &. Turnipseed and Dan W. Rigby. After discussion it was voted to increase the preachers salary to $ 4500.00 next year. Mr. Weaver suggested raising the salary of Miss Lena Davis as well as the preachers. He also suggested that the Bishop be notified that we desire to have Rev. Bowles returned to this church next year. Mr. Russell Sherrill sugeested reducing the number of men on the Board of Stewards to twenty and calling in the necessary number to assist in making the canvass for pledges. One of our stewards, W. W,. Winters, headed up this work in our Church. [he week of April 15 = 20 was devoted to an intensive Home-Visitation-Evangeélism program as a followeup to the Surveye During the month of Ap ril a Class in Church Membership was conducted for those uniting with the Church, The week of April 29 « May 6th was devobed to our Revival services under the leadership of Bishop Edwin, Holt Hughes of Washington. May the 6th, Sunday, was de- signated as embership Sunday at which time the persons who were reached in t¥ice Visitation campaign and those in the “embership Class : were received into the church, : 3 { CHRISBIAN EDUCATION: Our church is tremendously interested in the challenging task of Christian Education. During the past year we have engaged in many worthy enterprises, The entire Church School has been interested in Increased Church School Attendance, in keeping with the Crusade emphasis, As a result we have increased ou attend- ance in a very fine way. The avernge attendace last year was 270, During the first quarter of this year, before the ‘Yrusade emphasis began, this was increased to 304, or about 12%, Since the Crusade em- phasis in January this has risen to 358, about 33% increase, The mon of the church have done a significant job in leading the way in this program, incrcasing their attendance approximately 150%. We arc justly proud of these increases, During this period ve have engaged in the following Activities: Vacation Church School’ with 104 children in attendance and 18 teachers and workers. SERVICE MEN: This church is interested in its service personnell, Your mbnister has wri.tten the boys personal letters, contacted them when they are on leave, had special prayer each Sunday, and has kept them in the center of his personal praying. Lovely Christmas boxes were sent from the Men's Class, Special plans are being made to re- ceive them back into the life of the church, MISCELLANEOUS: Our church has co-opernted with the Union ‘ Servites In the city during the summer, Three special services have been held: Memorial “ervice for President Roosevelt, ape ocat services . on V-E-and Ved Day.
