FEBRUARY 29, 1988
The Iredell County Board of Commissioners met in Adjourned Regular Session at 1:00 D.m. on
February 29, 1988, County Annex Conference Room, Statesville, NC. Presentfor the meeting were:
Larry S. Hedrick, Chairman
Alice M. Stewart, Vice Chairman
Jessie S. Crosswhite
Frances L. Murdock
Samuel L. Ostwalt
Staff present: Joel Mashburn, County Manager
William P. Pope, County Attorney
Alice Fortner, Clerk to the Board
After the meeting was called to order by the chairman, considerable time was spent discussing
the agenda items for the March 1st meeting. Following the agenda briefing, a motion was made from
Chairman Hedrick to adjourn to executive session for the purpose of discussing sale of county
property and personnel.
VOTING: Ayes - 5; Nays - 0.

Chairman Hedrick adjourned the meeting at 3:15 o.m. Next meeting is scheduled for March 1,
1988, 7:30 p.m., Agricultural Conference Rooms 1 and 2, Statesville.

The Iredell County Board of Commissioners met in Regular Session on Tuesday evening, March 1,
1988, 7:30 p.m., Agricultural Center Conference Rooms 1 and 2, Statesville, NC. Present for the
meeting were:

CALL TO ORDER: By Chairman Hedrick
INVOCATION: By Chairman Hedrick
MRS. ELLEN O'BRIEN, REFERENCE LOW LEVEL NUCLEAR WASTE ORDINANCE: Mrs. Ellen O'Brien came before
the board in reference to her concerns over the disposal of low level nuclear waste in North
Carolina and the appointment of members of the County Hazardous and Low -Level Radioactive Waste
Management Board, as called for in the county's Low Level Nuclear Waste Ordinance, adopted on
January 27, 1987. Mrs. O'Brien recommended two members to serve on this committee; namely, Dr. Pam
Shular and Ms. Maggie Wyant from the Union Grove area.
Mrs. O'Brien shared some concerns of conflicts of interest that she perceived of various
agencies involved in the decisions of low level nuclear waste in the state.
