The Board met for the purpose of having a second reading of the amendments to
the zoning ordinance, approved at the meeting on October 4, 1983, first reading.
MOTION from Commissioner Murdock to approve on second reading to rescind
the amendments to Section 87, adopted by prior action during the meeting on October
+1983, and to repeal Section 105 of the Iredell County Zoning Ordinance, and to
approve the second reading of the addition of a new Section 87, entitled "Planned
Residential Districts," and to renumber the sections of the existing Iredell County
Zoning Ordinance. Beginning with old Section 87, R -O Residential -Office District
to be changed to Section 88, and to renumber all existing sections after Section 88
(old section 87) sequentially to the end of the existing ordinance.
VOTING: Ayes - 3; Nays - 0.
ADJOURN: Chairman Troutman adjourned the meeting at 12:20 p.m. Next meeting:
October 18, 1983, 7:30 p.m., Agricultural Center Conference Rooms 1 and 2.

AMENDMENT TO ZONING ORDINANCE, ADOPTED OCTOBER 4, 1983, FIRST READING
ADOPTED OCTOBER 5, 1983, SECOND READING
Section 87. Planned Residential District.
The regulations of this district are intended to provide for variety in
development by allowing certain variations in lot sizes and design requirements.
The intent of this district is to permit flexibility and provide performance
criteria for Planned Residential Developments, which through the issuance of a
special use permit:
- permit a creative apnroach to the development of residential land;
- accomplish a more desirable environment than would be possible through
the strict application of minimum requirements of the zoning ordinance;
- provide for an efficient use of land;
- enhance the appearance of neighborhoods through preservation of natural
features,
- provide for recreational areas and open space; and
- provide an opportunity for new approaches to living environment and
provide an environment of stable character compatible with surrounding
residential areas.
Application for Planned Residential District (PRD) designation requires simul-
taneous application for a special use permit issued by the board of county commis-
sioners, under the procedures provided herein.
87.1 Permitted Uses.
All types of residential construction, including single and multi -family
(attached and detached), townhouse, condominiums, and customary accessory
uses.
