UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Vice Chairman Johnson said that on behalf of the Statesville
Airport Commission he wanted to thank the board of commissioners for the past support and
assistance. Johnson said the airport commission was making good progress.
NEW BUSINESS: LISTING OF PAST COMMISSIONERS: Commissioner Boone
distributed a listing of past commissioners. The material dated back to 1868 which was the year of
the first board of county commissioners. Prior to 1868, Iredell County was governed by justices of
the peace. These individuals were appointed by the governor and served for life. In addition to the
governing of the county the justices presided over minor legal cases. Boone said the Register of
Deed's Office had minutes dating back to 1890. Minutes prior to this (dating back to 1868) can be
