TWO-WAY RADIOS - HEALTH DEPARTMENT: The county
manager presented a quotation from Two -Way Radio Company
in Charlotte for radios for the sanitarians at the health
department.
Bill Mashburn, health director, was present to discuss
the radios with the board. He said that in his opinion, the
two-way radios would be cost effective. He said they would
save the sanitarians time since they would not have to
come back to the health department at lunchtime to make
calls. He believed the radios would reduce the travel budget
by 20 per cent. At the present time the sanitarians come
in the office from 8:00 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. and again
from 1:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m., primarily to take calls.
Commissioner Campbell asked about the sanitarians'
attitude toward the two-way radios, whether there was any
opposition to having them installed in their cars.
Mashburn said he saw no real problem. Maybe some of
the sanitarians thought that somebody is going to be checking
on them.
