off the existing hospital bonds and interest. This
obligation was not imposed upon us. The citizens of Iredell
County elected to assume this obligation by approving
bonds for hospital improvements.For the fiscal year 1982-83
the tax payers' part of this obligation is 19.2 cents
per thousand dollar valuation. To put it just a little
bit better, for $10,000 valuation, your part of this cost
is $1.92. I think we have a pretty good bargain.
My family and I moved to Statesville in 1955, twenty-
seven years ago. Three of our seven children were born
at Iredell Hospital. We have three grandchildren. One
was born at Lowrance, one was born at Davis, and one was
born at Iredell. I am grateful for those farsighted people
who undertook the responsibility to provide excellent
medical care and medical facilities for us. We cannot
rest on our laurels or retain the status quo. We plan
for the future and move ahead.
I would like to think the future generations will
look back to 1982 and say thank you for your foresightedness.
As I stated in the beginning, there's one important
thing that I do not recall being discussed at any of our
meetings. This is the empact of industrial development.
