DOROTHY PENDLETON: My name is Dorothy Pendleton. I have lived
at 389 Oakwood Drive, Statesville, for 30 years. Tonight I appear
before you for the concerned taxpayers of Iredell County.
Our number one concern is the proposed general obligation bond
for the county hospitals in the amount of twenty-two and three quarters
of a million dollars with the Proposed Payback at 12% over twenty
years and a total debt of $60 million.
This proposed indebtedness would obligate every taxpayer
in Iredell County for payment of $3 million each year for twenty
years. And is this the end? Do we not pay again when being ill by
paying to use the equipment in the hospitals we are going to
agree to furnish? Is it free to the medical personnel? Do they
pay the same things we do? We are here to ask that this $22.75
million bond not even be put on the ballot in November for the
following reasons:
(a) The officers of Iredell Memorial Hospital have already
spent thousands of dollars to promote the bond, and they
plan to start a bond campaign and spend thousands and thousands
more of the hospital's money. They have even made a slide picture
show as evidence of their need, We can't afford this kind of
✓ wasteful spending.
