two cities. Rowan County officials are interested in having
someone from Iredell County speak at their transportation division
meeting in support of this request to the DOT. The officials of
Rowan are willing to go to the Division 12 meeting and speak in
support of widening the Iredell County portion. Rowan County would
like to show a united effort in the widening and would like for
Iredell to move this up to their number one priority. This is the
City of Statesville's yl priority, but there is only a small
segment of Hwy. 70 which lies in the County's planning
jurisdiction.
National Unfunded Mandates Day: The county manager stated
that during the past 12 years federal funding for local governments
has been cut by over 358, however, during that same time federal
mandates have increased by over 1008. The county manager advised
that to increase citizen awareness about the impact of unfunded
mandates on local governments the International City/County
Manager's Association, the National Association of Counties, the
National League of Cities and the U.S. Conference of Mayors have
joined together to declare October 27 as the National Unfunded
Mandates Date. ICMA encourages some type of public awareness to
commemorate this day.

the Commissioners' Meeting Room, Iredell County Government Center,
Statesville, NC.
