HomeMy WebLinkAboutC.054.93011_1180IREDELL COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS REGULAR MINUTES JUNE 6, 2006 The Iredell County Board of Commissioners met in Regular Session on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at 7:00 P.M., in the Iredell County Government Center (Commissioners' Meeting Room), 200 South Center Street, Statesville, NC. Present were: Chairman Sara Haire Tice Vice Chairman Godfrey Williams Steve Johnson Marvin Norman Ken Robertson Staff present: County Manager Joel Mashburn, County Attorney Bill Pope, Deputy County Manager Susan Blumenstein, Code Enforcement/Planning Director Lynn Niblock, Planning Supervisor Steve Warren, Planner Rebecca Harper, and Clerk to the Board Jean Moore. CALL TO ORDER by Chairman Tice. INVOCATION by Commissioner Johnson. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE ADJUSTMENTS OF THE AGENDA: OTIO by Chairman Tice to approve the following agenda adjustment. Deletion: Due to Retiree Jim Vernon being unable to attend the meeting, the presentation of an appreciation plaque to him was postponed. VOTING: Ayes — 5; Nays — 0. APPOINTMENT BEFORE THE BOARD Presentation from Bill Brater Regarding the Donation of a Monument to be Situated at the Halt of Justice in Commemoration of World War II Veterans: Brater said monuments honoring veterans of WWI, and the Vietnam/Korean Conflicts or Wars were located at the Hall of Justice; however, there wasn't a memorial for WWII service personnel. Mr. Brater offered to donate a five -and -a -half foot, grey -granite monument with the following inscription: "To Honor and Remember Those Who Gave their lives in World War IV' He said the names of the veterans would also be included. OTIO by Commissioner Williams to (1) accept the donation from Mr. Brater and (2) to allow the placement of the monument at the Iredell County Hall of Justice (front lawn) on the site as depicted in a sketch by the Support Services Director. VOTING: Ayes — 5; Nays — 0. PUBLIC HEARINGS Chairman Tice declared the meeting to be in a public hearing. Consideration of an Economic Development Incentive for BSI Balance Systems: Greater Statesville Development Corporation Interim Director Terry Orell said BSI Balance Systems, also known as the Amesbury Group, planned an expansion -with a total investment of $7,411,000 (equipment @ $1,211,000 & new building @ $6,200,000). Orell said the manufacturing company, located in the Keith Corporate Park, across from the LazyBoy Company, was requesting an incentive of $128,951. He said the company currently employed 220, and 50 new jobs would be created.
