BRIEFING MINUTES
FEBRUARY 7,200
The Iredell County Board of Commissioners met in Briefing Session on
Tuesday, February 7, 2006, at 5:00 P.M., in the Iredell County Government Center
(South Wing Conference Room), 200 South Center Street, Statesville, NC.
Present were:
Chairman Sara Haire Tice
Vice Chairman Godfrey Williams
Steve D. Johnson
Marvin Norman
Ken Robertson
Staff present: County Manager Joel Mashburn, Deputy County Manager Susan
Biumenstein, Assistant County Manager Tracy Jackson, Planning & Code Enforcement
Director Lynn Niblock, Planning Supervisor Steve Warren, Transportation Director Ben
Garrison, Cooperative Extension Director Ken Vaughn, Tax Collector Bill Furches,
Library Director Steve Messick, Purchasing Agent Dean Lail, Emergency
Communication Operations Management Director David Martin, Lieutenant Rick Eades
with the Sheriffs Department, and Clerk to the Board Jean Moore.
CALL TO ORDER by Chairman Tice.
TRANSPORTATION DIRECTOR PROVIDES AN UPDATE ON THE
ICATS VAN ACCIDENT: Transportation Director Ben Garrison said fortunately,
only one passenger was on board the van involved in the February 3 traffic accident on
Meeting Street. Garrison said both vehicles had extensive damage, and as such, the
occupants had to be cut or extricated from them. He said the ICATS driver had a
fractured wrist, and the passenger was transported to Carolinas Medical Center with
injuries to her right hand. Mr. Garrison said the ICATS van was broadsided by the
other vehicle whose driver had not stopped at a stop sign. He said there really wasn't
anything the ICATS driver could have done to avoid the collision.

summary of their comments may be found in the regular minutes.)
ADJOURNMENT: At 6:25 P.M., Chairman Tice adjourned the briefing
session.
