HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-10-2022 1 November 10, 2022 IREDELL COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS SPECIAL MEETING November 10, 2022 The Iredell County Board of Commissioners met in Special Session on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at 7pm in the Commissioners’ Meeting Room located in the Iredell County Government Center 200 South Center Street, Statesville, NC. The purpose of the meeting was to fill the vacancy on the Board. Board Members Present Chairman James Mallory Vice Chairman Melissa Neader Scottie Brown Gene Houpe Brad Stroud, Sr. Staff present: County Manager Beth Mull, County Attorney Lisa Valdez, Deputy County Manager Susan Robertson, and Clerk to the Board Amy Anderson. CALL TO ORDER: Chairman James Mallory called the meeting to order. PLEDGE: Led by Chairman Mallory Chairman Mallory said this moment can be described as bittersweet. Commissioner Marvin Norman passed away in September 2022. As such, by NC General Statute the Board must fill the vacancy. Given the proximity to the election the Board chose to convene the meeting after such to listen to the voice of the people. Chairman Mallory asked for a motion. Commissioner Houpe said late Commissioner Norman was a friend and colleague that will be greatly missed. MOTION by Commissioner Houpe to appoint Brad Stroud, Sr. to complete the remaining term of Commissioner Marvin Norman. VOTING Ayes – 4; Nays – 0 Resident Superior Court Judge Joseph Crosswhite administered the Oath of Office to Commissioner Brad Stroud, Sr. Stroud was accompanied by his wife, Kim, and Juanita Norman. Commissioner Stroud expressed appreciation to everyone in attendance, specifically his family for their support. The Board welcomed Commissioner Stroud to the dais. MOTION by Commissioner Stroud to adjourn at 6:15pm. VOTING Ayes – 5; Nays – 0
