permission for any student desiring to transfer outside the County.
STATE FUNDING INEQUITIES• Commissioner Johnson said he had
reviewed the bond statistics for North Carolina counties and it
looked like Iredell got "the short end of the stick." He mentioned
that he felt Iredell County was helping to support the educational
needs of other counties. He asked if the State could disburse
Iredell's bond money earlier. Barnard said the school officials
were optimistic -- there's a 50-50 chance. In reference to
inequities, Barnard said the counties classified with critical
needs were only required to give a one-third match.
Commissioner Stewart added that gasoline taxes paid by Iredell
citizens built the roads used in other counties throughout the
State. The State officials always seem to have a formula that
benefits counties other than Iredell.
Chairman Haire mentioned that Iredell does not receive the
economic development incentives from the State given to other
counties.
