of our community through the years. However, since I serve
on the board of directors of Iredell Memorial, I think
that I would like to express just a few comments that we
as directors feel as we face this issue.
I would like to assure you that your board of directors
and your larger groups of trustees from all areas of Iredell
County have diligently through the years given every issue
that has come to our attention very serious concern. We
have done thi sin your interest because it is your hospital.
Lowrance Hospital represents the faction of citizenry down
in the southern end of the county in the same way. The
directors and the trustees down there are there to represent
you as citizens who own these two hospitals.
If you will pardon just a very personal experience
that I would like to share with you, I would like to tell
you that when I was 15 years old, I lost my mother who
was 38 years old, who was well on Sunday and dead on
Wednesday, a beautiful, young, healthy community person.
Why? Because we had to take her 72 miles away to the
nearest hospital of our little rural community in Eastern
Carolina, and we didn't get there in time.
I think since that day I have been dedicated to doing
what I can in my small way at any time and in any place
to ensure that better health care is available in every
community, the best health care that that community can
afford. moo 2U PAGE 43
