Board Members Present Chairman Marvin Norman Vice Chairman Sara Haire Tice Steve Johnson Ken Robertson Godfrey Williams Staff present: County Manager Joel Mashburn, Deputy County Manager Susan Blumenstein, Assistant County Manager Tracy Jackson, Planning Director Ron Smith, Tax Collector Bill Furches and Clerk to the Board Jean Moore. CALL TO ORDER by Chairman Norman REQUEST FOR THE APPROVAL OF RENEWAL LEASES WITH CROSSROADS BEHAVIORAL HEALTHCARE FOR THE HWY. 21 NORTHJTURNERSBURG ROAD FACILITY AND THE 231 TWIN OAKS ROAD SITE: Crossroads Executive Director David Swann explained the two leases. He advised it had been ten years since Tri -County Mental Health was dissolved, and Iredell County joined the mental health authority with Suny and Yadkin Counties. Commissioner Robertson mentioned that a couple of months ago, a citizen had requested a detox center. Robertson asked Swann the locations of the nearest detox centers. Swann said there were four types of detoxification. He said a medical detox unit was in Hickory, and Crossroads could provide ambulatory detox in a person's home rather than in a hospital setting. Swann said many years ago Statesville had a detox center (Garner Bagnal Blvd.); however, it was phased out prior to the dissolution of Tri -County. He said if patients had a co -existing illness they could also receive services at Winston-Salem, Charlotte, Gastonia, and Wilkes County. Swann said it was expensive to operate a detox center, but Crossroads had funding to assist clients who lacked adequate resources. (He said the costs might range from a low of $400 a day lip to $1500 a day.) Mr. Swann assured the board members that the services were readily accessible to the clients.
