BRIEFING MINUTES
JANUARY 16, 2007
The Iredell County Board of Commissioners met in Briefing Session on Tuesday,
January 16, 2007, at 5:00 P.M., in the Iredell County Government Center (South Wing
Conference Room), 200 South Center Street, Statesville, NC.
Present were:
Chairman Marvin Norman
Vice Chairman Sara Haire Tice
Steve Johnson
Ken Robertson
Godfrey Williams
Staff present: County Manager Joel Mashburn, Deputy County Manager Susan
Blumenstein, Acting Planning Director Steve Warren, Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Rick
Dowdle, Tax Administrator Bill Doolittle, and Clerk to the Board Jean Moore.
CALL TO ORDER by Chairman Norman
REQUEST FOR APPROVAL OF AN AMENDMENT TO THE DSS BUILDING
CAPITAL PROJECT FUND ORDINANCE: Deputy County Manager Blumenstein said a
$144,620 budget amendment was needed for the social services building project. Mrs.
Blumenstein said additional revenue had been received from investment interest ($47,000), sales
taxes reimbursed on building materials and fumiturelfixtures/equipment ($16,900) and DSS
federal & state grant reimbursements ($80,720). She said the additional funds would be used to
finish out the building by creating office space for 13 existing and seven future employees.
Blumenstein said leftover funds would be transferred to the Capital Reserve Fund.
Commissioner Williams mentioned a recent letter published in a newspaper that was
critical of the board for not completing the building at one time. He said the method used by
commissioners actually saved money because no new funds had to be borrowed to finish out the
building.
Blumenstein said Mr. Williams was correct -- the county did not have to borrow
additional money.
