HomeMy WebLinkAboutC.054.93011_1393 (2)Jail 2 200 v 0 rn IREDELL COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS BRIEFING MINUTES JANUARY 2, 2007 The Iredell County Board of Commissioners met in Briefing Session on Tuesday, January 2, 2007, at 5:00 P.M., in the Iredell County Government Center (South Wing Conference Room), 200 South Center Street, Statesville, NC. Present were: Chairman Marvin Norman Vice Chairman Sara Haire Tice Steve Johnson Ken Robertson Godfrey Williams Staff present: County Manager Joel Mashburn, Deputy County Manager Susan Blumenstein, Acting Planning Director Steve Warren, Health Director Donna Campbell, and Clerk to the Board Jean Moore. CALL TO ORDER by Chairman Norman REQUEST FROM THE NORTH CAROLINA ASSOCIATION OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS FOR A LEGISLATIVE LIAISON: The NCACC has requested that all 100 counties appoint one county commissioner to serve as a legislative liaison. The responsibilities will be as follows: • Ensure other commissioners are aware of legislative developments concerning issues of importance to the county • Place items of statewide importance on commissioners' agendas to generate discussion and elevate public awareness • Provide a local voice that local media can rely upon for information on legislative issues • Set up or make sure regular meetings with local legislators are taking place • Provide feedback to the Association District Director on what local legislators, fellow board members, other officials, and the general public are saying about bills and issues, and what issues are important in the county Chairman Norman volunteered to serve as the liaison. REVIEW OF THE 2007-2008 LEGISLATIVE GOALS APPROVED BY THE NORTH CAROLINA ASSOCIATION OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS' BOARD OF DIRECTORS: County Manager Joel Mashburn reviewed the three priority items and 36 other goals approved by the NCACC Board of Directors. The board members expressed concerns about several of the goals, and a summary of the approved ones may be found in the regular minutes. WEB STREAMING: County Manager Mashburn said Larry Ray, the county's safety officer, had recently e-mailed information to the board members about a company that provided webcasting software for local governments. He said the company, Granicus, was capable of webcasting the board meetings through the Internet live, or with an on -demand feature. Mashburn said the link was best viewed through a high speed Internet connection, and if any board members needed assistance, to let Mr. Ray know.
