APPOINTMENTS BEFORE THE BOARD
MR. CARROLL GOODMAN, REPRESENTING THE FIRE TAX DISTRICT
BOARD (FTDB) DISCUSSES WEST IREDELL VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT'S
REQUEST FORA LETTER OF ENDORSEMENT CONCERNING A NEW SUBSTATION:
Mr. Goodman spoke about the West Iredell Fire Department's proposed construction of a new
substation. Goodman said that in a meeting on November 19, 1997, the FTDB was told by the West
Iredell VFD Chief there was a possibility the department might build a substation in two or three
years. Goodman said, however, the FTDB did not approve anything. He said this was because
nothing was asked of the FTDB. Mr. Goodman said the FTDB recently met and was infornied of
West Iredell's construction plans; however, again, no funding request was made. He said lie
understood the fire department had recently held fund raisers. Goodman said the FTDB supported
West Iredell's plans since the area could use a substation and also because there were eight firemen
living along Sharon School Road.
Commissioner Johnson thanked Mr. Goodman for his appearance before the board and told
him the commissioners wanted the FTDB's support before a letter of endorsement was written.
Commissioner Williams said the FTDB hoped that by May 1, 2001, a debt reduction plan
could be implemented for the fire departments.
