Mr. Weatherman said the property was not worth $5,000 an acre, especially since it was bottom land and stayed under flood water much of the time. Sullivan said the state was encouraging the county to purchase the property, due to its close proximity to the old landfill, in an effort to catch any possible contaminate leakage. Mr. Sullivan said that if the county purchased the land, that any leachates would probably run off into the creek and dissipate. The commissioners instructed Weatherman to return to the club's officials and offer $3,000 an acre, with a payment plan spread over a five-year period.
