This item involves the reclassification ofa vacant GIS Mapping Technician, Grade 63 position, to a GIS Supervisor position at Grade69, asofAugust 23, 2000. (See briefing minutes.) 10. REQUEST FOR REACTIVATION OF THE LOCAL WELFARE REFORM COMMITTEE & A REQUEST FOR THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS TO SEEK AN ELECTING COUNTY STATUS EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2001: During the briefing, DSS Director Don Wall said the county had to notify the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services by September 29, 2000, whether or not it desired to be a Standard or Electing County for Work First. He gave the following information on why the county should try to remain as an Electing County. AElecting County's Maintenance of Effort was 90% vs. 100% for Standard Counties. (Iredell County saves $157,364 per year on MOE expenditures.) 100%, MOE 1,573,640 90% MOE 1,416,27 Difference 157 364 A Electing Counties have more community involvement in the development of the Work First Plan needs. A Electing status allows counties to write local policies and regulations to address local A Electing counties are allowed tobemore innovative and creative in developing their plans. A Iredell County's Electing Plan has been successful in reducing the welfare rolls (77%)and putting people to work.
