REGULAR MINUTES
MAY 1. 2000
The Iredell County Board of Commissioners met in Regular Session on Monday, May 1,
2000, 7:00 p.m., in the Iredell County Government Center (Commissioners' Meeting Room), 200
South Center Street, Statesville, NC 28677.
Present: Chairman Sara Haire Tice
Vice Chairman Steve D. Johnson
Tommy E. Bowles
Alice T. Fortner
Alice M. Stewart
Staff Present: County Manager Joel Mashburn, County Attorney Bill Pope, Finance
Director Susan Blumenstein, Planning Supervisor William Allison, and Clerk to the Board Jean
Moore.
CALL TO ORDER by Chairman Tice
INVOCATION by Commissioner Bowles
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
ADJUSTMENTS OF THE AGENDA: MOTION by Chairman Tice to remove Mrs.
Mary Bradford (Request for Arts & Heritage Museum Funding) from the agenda. (Mrs. Bradford
desires to attend a future meeting.)
VOTING: Ayes - 5; Nays - 0.
PRESENTATION OF SPECIAL RECOGNITIONS & AWARDS
RECOGNITION OF MRS. LINDA CARTNER MCAULEV, A RETIREE OF THE
DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES: Mrs. McAuley retired on April 28, 2000, after
Supervisor Brenda Garton. Wall and Gatton praised McAuley for her compassion and
working over 20 years at DSS. She was accompanied to the meeting by DSS Director Don Wall and
Chairman Tice thanked Mrs. McAuley and presented her with a plaque. dedication.
Mr. Julian ("Jack") C. Moore, a Retiree of the Health Department was due to accept
his retirement plaque, but was unable to attend the meeting.
ADOPTION & PRESENTATION OFA RESOLUTION FOR NATIONAL HISTORIC
PRESERVATION WEEK TO BE HELD MAY 14 - MAY 20,2000: John Lewis and Skip
Stonestreet, both members of the Old Courthouse Centennial Committee, shared a resolution in
reference to National Historic Preservation Week. They also advised of a presentation by J. Myrick
Howard, the Executive Director of Preservation North Carolina, on May I5, mato n y J. Myr
MOTION by Commissioner Stewart to adopt the following resolution in reference to
National Historic Preservation Week and the upcoming presentation by Mr. Howard.
VOTING: Ayes - 5; Nays - 0.
