Several members of the board had additional questions they wanted answered before they agreed .0
to be a co-sponsor. It was decided to place this back on the agenda for the next meeting and have
Ms. Sue Hicks present to respond to the board's questions.
Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at approximately 3:00 p.m. Next meeting
will be on Monday, September 19,1988 for an agenda briefing.

SEPTEMBER 20, 1988
The Iredell County Board of Commissioners met in Adjourned Regular Session on Tuesday evening,
September 20, 1988, 7:30 p.m., Agricultural Center Conference Rooms 1 and 2, Statesville, NC.
Present for the meeting were:
Larry S. Hedrick, Chairman
Alice M. Stewart, Vice Chairman
Jessie S. Crosswhite
Frances L. Murdock
Samuel L. Ostwalt
CALL TO ORDER: By Chairman Hedrick
INVOCATION: By Chairman Hedrick
UNITED WAY FUNDING: This item was continued from the August 16, 1988 meeting of the board,
pending additional information and recommendations from staff. The request is for $2,000 to be used
for a needs study in Iredell County. The study will be performed by United Way staff. Chairman
Hedrick announced that $2,000 is being solicited from five different agencies. Statesville United
Way, Mooresville/South Iredell United Way, and Mooresville Town Board have already committed $2,000
each, leaving the County and City of Statesville to make up the five agencies.
MOTION from Commissioner Stewart to appropriate $2,000 as the County's portion of the study to
be done by United Way. Funds are to come from Contingency.
VOTING: Ayes - 4; Nays - 1 (Ostwalt).
RESOLUTION FOR EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK: MOTION from Chairman Hedrick to approve the
following resolution:
TO DESIGNATE THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 18-24, 1988 AS
EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK
WHEREAS the members of emergency medical services teams devote their lives to saving the lives
of others;
WHEREAS, emergency medical services teams consist of emergency physicians, nurses, emergency m»
medical technicians, paramedics, educators, and administrators;
WHEREAS, the people of Iredell County benefit daily from the knowledge and skill of these
trained individuals;
WHEREAS, advances in emergency medical care increase the number of lives saved every year;
WHEREAS, the professional organizations of providers of emergency medical services promote
research to improve emergency medical care;
WHEREAS, the members of emergency medical services teams work together to improve and adapt
their skills as new methods of emergency treatment are developed;
WHEREAS, the members of emergency medical services teams encourage national standardization of
training and testing of emergency medical personnel and reciprocal recognition of training and
credentials by the State;
WHEREAS, the designation of Emergency Medical Services Week will serve to educate the people of
Iredell County about accident prevention and what to do when confronted with a medical emergency;
and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the value and the accomplishments of emergency medical
services teams by designating Emergency Medical Services Week.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Iredell County Board of Commissioners of Statesville, NC, in recognition of
this event, do hereby proclaim the week of September 18-24, 1988 as
EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK
and encourages the community to observe this week with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activi-
