SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES
MAY 5, 2010
The Iredell County Board of Commissioners met in Special Session on
Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at 6:30 P.M., in the Iredell County Government Center (South
Wing Conference Room), 200 South Center Street, Statesville, NC.
Board Members Present
Chairman Marvin Norman
Vice Chairman Steve Johnson
Scott Keadle
Frank Mitchell
Absent: Ken Robertson
Staff present: County Manager Joel Mashburn, County Attorney Bill Pope, and
Clerk to the Board Jean Moore.
CALL TO ORDER by Chairman Norman
ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE RETIREMENT OF TAX ADMINISTRATOR
BILL DOOLITTLE ALONG WITH THE APPOINTMENTS OF ASSISTANT
TAX ASSESSORS & AN INTERIM TAX ADMINISTRATOR: County Manager
Joel Mashburn submitted a memo announcing that Tax Assessor/Tax Administrator
Bill Doolittle had submitted his resignation effective June 1, 2010 even though his term
of office (assessor) did not expire until June 30, 2011. The information also provided
recommendations on current employees who might assume more responsibility in the tax
department until the board was ready to appoint someone to Mr. Doolittle's statutory job.
OTION by Commissioner Keadle to appoint Laura Crater and Steve Ervin as
Assistant Tax Assessor/Personal Property and Assistant Tax Assessor/Real Property,
respectively, and as recommended by the County Manager, to name Bill Furches as the
Interim Tax Administrator.
Commissioner Johnson asked the terms for the three individuals.
County Manager Mashburn said Crater and Ervin's positions would extend
through June 30, 2011, and the appointment ofFurches would be on a temporary basis.
VOTING: Ayes — 4; Nays — 0.
ADJOURNMENT: MOTION by Commissioner Keadle to adjourn the meeting
at 6:34 p.m.
